Georgia — A Rising Star in Medical Education

Georgia has rapidly emerged as one of the most sought-after MBBS destinations for Indian students over the past decade. Located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Georgia offers world-class medical education in a safe, affordable, and culturally vibrant environment. The capital city of Tbilisi is a thriving, modern city with a rich history and a growing Indian student community.

Georgian medical universities are recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India, the World Health Organization (WHO), and many European bodies. The MBBS program is 6 years in duration, taught entirely in English, and follows a curriculum that combines rigorous academic foundations with extensive clinical training at large teaching hospitals.

One of Georgia's greatest advantages over other MBBS destinations is the EU recognition of its degrees — making Georgian MBBS holders eligible to practice in EU countries after clearing the respective licensing examinations, in addition to India after clearing FMGE/NEXT.

MBBS in Georgia — FAQs

Yes, degrees from NMC-approved Georgian universities are valid in India. After completing MBBS in Georgia, you must clear the FMGE (or NEXT) exam conducted by NBE to practice medicine in India. Georgian MBBS graduates have consistently shown above-average FMGE pass rates.

Most Georgian medical universities have their main intake in September–October. Applications typically open in June–July after NEET results. Some universities also accept applications for a February intake. We recommend starting the process at least 3–4 months before the intake date.

The MBBS program is fully English-medium for international students — no Georgian language proficiency is required for admission or academics. Basic Georgian or Russian is taught as a part of the curriculum to help students communicate with patients during clinical rotations, but this is not an admission barrier.

The cost of living in Tbilisi is very reasonable. Students typically spend USD 300–450 per month on food, local transport, personal expenses, and entertainment (excluding hostel rent which is covered annually). Indian food options are available, and grocery stores carry familiar Indian products.
